Add a little more storage to your shelves
Part of my cheap bathroom makeover was the addition of shelves (made from pallet wood) to help ease a storage issue I had. My countertops were always cluttered and finding things quickly among the 100 bottles of products I can’t get rid of was impossible.
I only had one wall to place shelving but wanted to utilize both corners.
I decided to put tiny shelves in the tight corner. You might notice that there were a few other alterations made in this room as well, these are covered here.
Due to the size of the brackets and outlet placement, the full shelves had to start a little higher up, leaving a large space beneath the bottom shelf. When deciding what to do with this spot I was reminded of a little shelf trick I’d done in my shop, and decided this would be a good way to store some extra items.
For an easy extra spot to stash items, attach the lid of a jar (gripping side down) to the bottom of a shelf and screw the jar on and off. For these larger jars, I used two screws with one on each side.
Result
The shelves are a life saver. I can’t say the countertop is cleaner, but the things I want to be able to grab when needed are handy on the shelves. The smaller shelves have ended up being used more than we had thought they’d be.
The jars? I keep hair accessories that I rarely access in them. The jars are heavier than my shop ones which makes me more cautious when tightening them back up. I’m not sure I’d go with glass if I did it again.
